Identity Theft 2010 Trends & 2009 Statistics
The ITRC and expert Robert Siciliano predict that the current recession will trigger more scams preying on desperate job seekers with fake job listings and work-at-home scams that will eventually lead the user to provide information such as name, address and social security number.
As of January 19, 2010 the total number of security breaches reported by the ITRC is 15. The total number of security breaches for 2009 was 498. Security breaches are expected to happen and this is due to a lack of proper security measures not implemented by the companies that are responsible for securely storing consumer information.
